Getting the most out of the Front Range and Rocky Mountain National Park

We are lucky enough to live near Rocky Mountain National Park. We are happy to share our favorite places near the park. These spaces are the perfect launchpad for your own Luna Rover explorations.

The scenic Peak to Peak Highway connects these areas. This beautiful drive will give you some of the best views of the peaks without hitting major elevations.

Start at Estes Park- the small town is the gateway to the National Park. The reservoir in town is perfect for paddleboarding or renting a boat at the marina. A few miles outside of the town you will find the Stanley Hotel- an iconic building immortalized by Stephen King's The Shining.

For camping nearby the park, we recommend Mary's Lake Campground. This traditional RV park is close to everything. You may get wandering elk and deer paying your campsite a visit.

Further up the Peak to Peak are three great campgrounds that give you more space and are still within 30 minutes of the National Park.

Kelly Dahl Campground - this beautiful campground is just off the Peak to Peak. most of the sites are next the forest.

Rainbow Lakes is a first come first serve campsite that has an incredible hike to several Alpine lakes. When we have guests stay with us we always show them Rainbow Lakes.

If you are into Mountain biking the Magnolia ridge offers free camping and amazing single track. Luna Rover Revel is perfectly suited for this kind of dry camping.

Along the Peak to Peak highway, along the way to Estes Park, is a large field with free camping. This is a great spot for those looking for a nice dry site close to you can visit Nederland and stop for pizza or Allenspark for some high mountain town life.

Have a little more time head across the National Park on the seasonal Trail Ridge Road to Grand Lake. Green Ridge Campground is right along the water. https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/231861

Head back down HWY 34 and take a quick hike up to Timber Lake.

The trailhead is right next to the parking lot of the Silver Park Rec area. This lake is not as good for fishing but there are several campsites along the edge on single-track trails... If you have yet been able to enjoy a night under the stars away from bright city lights this is your chance!

Finally, before making your way to Estes Park for some fuel or heading south towards Lyons grab a nice flat site along Big Dry Creek at Green Mountain Campground just north of Nederland on Hwy119.

We hope you enjoy exploring our state in Luna Rover.
